MindBacklog vs ChatGPT and Claude: memory, time, accuracy and position.

A general chat tool is where most founders start, and it is good at it. MindBacklog adds memory, history, counts from your data and a record your agent reads.

Common ground

Where they're similar

  1. Both answer questions in plain language and draft documents. In MindBacklog that means a PRD, user stories, an investor update or a note to a customer, each from the record it keeps.
  2. Both take a pasted transcript or thread. In MindBacklog, Drop anything shows where each piece will go before filing it, and the source stays labelled on every quote.
  3. Both remember within a conversation. MindBacklog also keeps what you decided and what happened, dated, in your workspace only.
  4. Both run on AI models, and both can be wrong. MindBacklog's checks make it visible when Mind has nothing to stand on: it says so, and what would change the answer.
Where MindBacklog is different

The four gaps MindBacklog is built around.

These are the founder's own four reasons, each tied to something MindBacklog does.

  1. Memory

A general chat tool starts from zero each time. MindBacklog keeps every piece of feedback, decision and competitor change. Each is filed where it belongs: a problem ranked by who has it, a belief on the evidence ladder, a logged decision with its review date. Tell Mind what's right once; later answers on the same subject use it, dated, in your workspace only.

  2. Time

Trends and before-and-after need history. Problems carry a two-week trend; Results shows the same measure before the first ship and now; Grow reads retention by month since the first payment. Mind remembers what you decided and what happened: "Last time you predicted 40% and got 12%" (example numbers).

  3. Accuracy

Counts come from your data, and checks stop invented numbers reaching you. The verdict on a request is counted from people, never written by the model. A number Mind can't source becomes a placeholder. Under 30 pieces of feedback, Mind says "Not ranked" and why, instead of inventing a ranking.

  4. Position

Your coding agent reads MindBacklog, so Claude Code and Cursor build with your product's memory instead of a fresh prompt. Your coding agent pulls the Build Pack: why it matters, who it's for, the metric, and the must-haves with acceptance criteria. Your coding agent writes the product map. MindBacklog never reads your code.

Why pushback is built in

Know what you don't know.

AI tools tend to agree with the person typing. Cheng, Jurafsky et al., Science (Mar 2026): across 11 models, AI affirmed users' actions 49% more often than people did (science.org, doi 10.1126/science.aec8352). That habit is what Mind's checks are built to resist.

Mind shows you what argues against you before it agrees. When your data has nothing on a question, Mind says so, and what would change the answer. Mind gives you the method; the numbers are yours. It never sets a price, a target or a deadline for you.

Who should pick which

Pick by the job in front of you.

Who should stay with ChatGPT or Claude

  • You want one window for every kind of task, from code to copy to a cover letter, with nothing to set up.
  • You have no users and no plan to talk to any yet, so there is nothing to keep a record of.

Who should pick MindBacklog

  • You have feedback, calls or payments and want them kept, ranked and quotable months later.
  • You want a tool that argues with you from your own data, and says "nothing in your data yet" instead of filling the gap.
  • You build with Claude Code, Cursor or Lovable and want the agent to read the record instead of a fresh prompt.
  • You want to check after launch whether the thing you built did what you predicted.
Questions

Questions about MindBacklog, ChatGPT and Claude

I already pay for ChatGPT or Claude. Why add MindBacklog?

Memory: a general chat tool starts from zero each time; MindBacklog keeps every piece of feedback, decision and competitor change. Time: trends and before-and-after need history. Accuracy: counts come from your data, and checks stop invented numbers reaching you. Position: your coding agent reads MindBacklog, so Claude Code and Cursor build with your product's memory.

Does Mind use the same kind of AI models?

Mind runs on AI models through our gateway, and we don't name them because they change. The difference is what sits around the model. Counts are made in code. Verdicts such as Strong, Some or Weak are counted from people and only worded by the model. Quotes must match their source word for word, and a number without a source becomes a placeholder.

Can I keep using ChatGPT or Claude alongside it?

Yes. Paste a thread or a transcript with Drop anything and Mind shows where it'll go before filing it. Your coding agent, Claude Code or Cursor, reads MindBacklog over MCP on the Growth and Scale plans.

Does Mind agree with me the way a chat tool does?

It tries not to. Mind shows you what argues against you before it agrees. Ask "Am I right that…?" and an agreeing answer leads with the strongest piece of your own data against it. When your data has nothing on a question, Mind says so, and what would change the answer. It can still be wrong; the checks make it visible.

Is my data used to train AI?

No. Every request to our AI gateway asks for providers that keep no data. Your data is never used to train AI models. Learning across customers is off.

Give your product a memory.

Keep what your users said, what you decided and why, and what happened. Then let your coding agent read it.
