AI Credits & Usage
Overview
AI Credits are the currency for AI-powered actions in MindBacklog. Most actions consume credits, except the AI Daily Brief which is free on all plans. Credits are tracked at the organization level and shared across all products.
Plan Allocations
AI credit allocations vary by plan. The Starter plan includes a set number of credits per month that reset on your billing date, while Growth and Scale plans include unlimited AI credits. For complete plan details and credit allocations, visit our Pricing page.
If you find yourself frequently hitting credit limits on Starter, upgrading to Growth gives you unlimited credits — removing all friction from AI usage. See the Pricing page for plan comparison.

Tracking Your Usage
Monitor credits from two places:
- Dashboard → AI Credits Usage widget — Shows used vs. available with a breakdown by action type
- Settings → Billing — Shows current credits remaining and reset date
A credit warning appears on the Dashboard when usage exceeds 80% of your allocation.
Tips for Starter Plans
- Prioritize signal processing — This is the most valuable use of credits. Don't limit your channel connections.
- Be selective with PRD generation — At 10 credits each, generate PRDs only for features you're committed to building.
- Use Ask Mind strategically — Each message costs 1 credit. Ask comprehensive questions rather than multiple small ones.
- Monitor the Dashboard widget — Check your credit usage weekly to avoid running out before the reset date.
With 500 credits/month you can process ~300 signals, generate 10 PRDs, create stories for 20 features, and have 50 Ask Mind conversations. Most teams find this sufficient for getting started.
