UserVoice collects requests.
MindBacklog connects them.
UserVoice is the classic feedback portal. MindBacklog goes further: 9+ channels, AI classification, persistent intelligence, Living PRDs, and a defensible roadmap.
Two tools. Two categories.
One question decides which one fits your team — and it isn't about price.
Every channel, not just the portal.
Slack, Email, App Store, Google Play, Public Portal, Feedback Widget, Web Scraper, Web Form, Reddit — plus unlimited via REST API, Zapier, and Make. Portal participation is usually under 5% of your customer base; the other 95% talk elsewhere.
AI classification + sentiment.
Each signal classified, deduplicated, and sentiment-scored in under a second. The MIND engine connects signals to features, features to competitors, sentiment to trends. Vote counts capture preference; sentiment trends capture urgency and pain.
Living PRDs + competitive intel.
Every requirement cites the signals behind it across every channel. RICE scores reflect real volume, sentiment trend, and channel diversity. Competitive Intelligence dashboard surfaces gaps from public review mining — automatically.
UserVoice collects requests. MindBacklog connects them — across every place your customers actually talk.
Three moments. Two different outcomes.
Same Monday morning. Same product. Different tooling.
"Which features should we commit to next quarter?"
UserVoice: Sort the portal by SmartVote rank and supporter count. Top 10 are visible. But the list reflects only the 4% of customers who submit through the portal — the Slack mentions, App Store reviews, and email threads are not in the system.
MindBacklog: Open the Intelligence Hub. Candidates ranked by RICE — each score backed by signal volume across 4 channels, sentiment trend, channel diversity. Top 12 include 3 features no one submitted to the portal but were mentioned 30+ times in support tickets and App Store reviews.
"Write the PRD for the new feature. Engineering needs it Friday."
UserVoice: Open a doc. Paste in the top-voted portal suggestion text. Manually search for related comments. Try to remember what came up in last quarter's customer calls. Two hours minimum, and the PRD only reflects the portal voice.
MindBacklog: Ask Mind: "Write a Living PRD for the new feature." Thirty seconds. Cites every signal across 4 channels automatically. Sentiment trends inline. Competitive context built in from public review mining. Engineers click any citation to verify.
"What are competitors shipping and what do their users hate?"
UserVoice: The portal does not address competitive intelligence. Most teams cobble together a Notion teardown quarterly. The data goes stale within weeks.
MindBacklog: Open the Competitive Intelligence dashboard. Competitor X's top user complaints: 32 mentions of slow search, 21 of poor onboarding, 14 of missing API. Sentiment trended down 12%. Gap matrix highlights three features where you lead and two where you trail.

The four reasons that come up most.
Patterns we hear from PMs evaluating the move from a portal-only feedback model to a multi-channel intelligence layer.
1. "The portal only heard from 4% of our customers."
Portal participation is consistently low — under 5% across most B2B SaaS products. The other 95% of customers express needs in Slack, email, support tickets, App Store reviews, and sales calls. UserVoice cannot ingest those channels. The "voice of customer" being captured is actually the voice of the 4% most willing to fill out a portal form. MindBacklog captures the full distribution across 9+ channels.
2. "SmartVote ranking was an input, not a decision."
SmartVote pairwise comparison is clever — but the ranking it produces still needs interpretation against business goals, customer segments, and competitive context. Teams reported spending the same time defending priorities; the rank alone never closed the conversation. RICE backed by signal volume, sentiment trend, and channel diversity produces priorities that come with their own evidence trail.
3. "We were doing competitive intel in spreadsheets — badly."
UserVoice does not address competitive intelligence. Most teams cobble together quarterly teardowns in Notion or Google Docs that go stale within weeks. MindBacklog's Competitive Intelligence dashboard mines public reviews continuously and surfaces gap matrices, sentiment trends, and signal feeds per competitor automatically.
4. "Enterprise portal pricing got hard to justify."
Price is rarely the lead reason teams switch, but it is often the trigger. When the value of the tool is a portal plus voting — and the customer voice it captures represents only a fraction of the actual base — the renewal conversation gets harder. MindBacklog's $14.99 starts cheaper, but the actual argument is that intelligence work — signal capture, synthesis, scoring, PRDs, competitive context — moves into one platform.
What moving over actually looks like.
Honest mechanics from teams that have done the switch.
Step 1 — Connect your existing channels
Slack, Email, App Store, Google Play, your new MindBacklog public portal, your feedback widget, Web Scraper, Web Form, Reddit. Most teams complete this in under five minutes. Anything UserVoice was capturing through the portal or widget, MindBacklog captures directly — and then keeps capturing across seven more channels.
Step 2 — Bulk-import UserVoice forum history
Export your UserVoice forum suggestions, comments, votes, and supporter counts as CSV. POST them to the MindBacklog REST API endpoint. The pipeline classifies, deduplicates, and links them against your features automatically — typically restoring 18-36 months of feedback history in a single batch, with supporter counts preserved as signal weight.
Step 3 — Cut over the public portal
The MindBacklog Public Portal supports voting and replaces the UserVoice portal experience. Most teams redirect their UserVoice portal subdomain to the new one and update support docs the same day. Existing supporter counts carry over via the CSV import.
Step 4 — Migrate roadmap items via Jira
If UserVoice was already pushing to Jira, the LIVE bidirectional Jira sync picks them up directly. Otherwise, export UserVoice features as CSV and import. Status, owner, target dates preserved.
Realistic timeline
Solo PMs typically complete the full migration in an afternoon. Multi-PM teams complete it over a week with a half-hour onboarding session. UserVoice contract overlap is fine — most teams run both for one billing cycle while they validate the cut-over and let the new portal accumulate votes alongside the old one.
Honest call: choose them, not us, if…
A comparison page that pretends our tool wins in every scenario is not a credible comparison. There are real situations where UserVoice is the right pick:
- ✓You are a long-standing UserVoice customer with deeply integrated workflows. Internal processes, customer support scripts, sales integrations, account-segmented views — if your team has built years of muscle around UserVoice, switching costs are real. The upgrade has to clearly outweigh the disruption.
- ✓SmartVote ranking is core to your decision process. Some teams genuinely believe customer pairwise ranking should drive the roadmap. If that conviction is core to how your product culture operates, MindBacklog's evidence-driven RICE is a different philosophy — and not the right pick if you want customers, not signals, doing the ranking.
- ✓You explicitly want a portal-only model. Some teams prefer the simplicity of a single-channel portal — clean, contained, easy to govern. If your team has consciously rejected multi-channel signal capture, MindBacklog is not the right tool. We optimize for capturing signals across every channel, not for keeping them out.
- ✓Procurement requires UserVoice specifically. Existing enterprise contracts, security review constraints, vendor consolidation policies — these are real and not worth fighting. Use the tool that gets bought.
