Craft.io structures specs. MindBacklog knows what to spec.
Craft.io is a clean product spec + roadmap tool. MindBacklog is the intelligence layer upstream of any spec — telling you what should be specified, with evidence backing the call.
Two tools. Two categories.
One question decides which one fits your team — and it isn't about price.
Signal capture plus spec.
9+ channels feeding the layer: Slack, Email, App Store, Google Play, Public Portal, Feedback Widget, Web Scraper, Web Form, Reddit. Craft.io expects you to bring the evidence; MindBacklog has been collecting it.
Auto-link signals to features.
Each signal classified, deduplicated, and sentiment-scored in under a second. The MIND engine links signals to features, features to competitors, sentiment to trends. The spec generator queries that live layer instead of waiting on a PM to paste.
Living PRDs cite signals — no paste.
Same structural rigor as Craft.io templates; the citations are produced for you. Sentiment trends inline. Competitive context drawn from public review mining. RICE backed by signal volume. Engineers audit every claim themselves.
Craft.io structures the spec. MindBacklog produces the spec — from the signals that justify it.
Three moments. Two different outcomes.
Same Monday morning. Same product. Different tooling.
"Write the PRD for advanced filters. Engineering kicks off Friday."
Craft.io: Open the PRD template. Fill in Problem. Switch tabs to your research notes. Paste a couple of quotes. Fill in Solution. Guess at success metrics. Try to recall what competitors have shipped. Two hours minimum.
MindBacklog: Ask Mind: "Write a Living PRD for advanced filters." Thirty seconds. Cites 47 signals from 4 channels automatically. Sentiment trends inline. Competitive context built in. Engineers click any citation to verify. You edit on top — you do not draft from scratch.
"Why is bulk export ranked higher than custom dashboards?"
Craft.io: Open the roadmap view. Walk through the OKR alignment. Reference the capacity plan. Defend the score with judgment. The customer evidence lives in a separate research repo and is six weeks old.
MindBacklog: Click the bulk export card. The RICE breakdown opens: 47 signals across 4 channels, sentiment trending down 18%, 3 enterprise accounts asked specifically, Competitor X shipped this in May and their reviews improved 0.4 stars. Every claim is a clickable source.
"How do you compare to Competitor X?"
Craft.io: You promise to follow up with battlecard updates. Craft.io does not track competitor signal. The battlecard lives in Notion and was last updated in February.
MindBacklog: Open the Competitive Intelligence dashboard. Competitor X's top user complaints — 32 mentions of slow search, 21 of poor onboarding, 14 of missing API. Sentiment trended down 12% this quarter. You have the answer in 10 seconds.
The capability comparison.

The four reasons that come up most.
Patterns we hear from PMs evaluating the move.
1. "The templates were beautiful. The PRDs were still opinion pieces."
Craft.io's PRD templates structure the artifact — problem, solution, requirements, success metrics. But the customer evidence inside them still required manual quote-hunting from a separate research repo. Living PRDs pull every classified signal into the document automatically, with source-linked quotes engineers can audit themselves. Same template rigor; the citations stop being a PM-by-PM lottery.
2. "Signal capture lived outside the tool — and outside the loop."
Craft.io supports some integrations, but multi-channel native signal capture is limited. Customer feedback was happening in Slack, the support widget, App Store, and email — none of it feeding the spec tool. MindBacklog ingests from 9+ channels natively — plus unlimited via REST API, Zapier, and Make — and every signal joins the same intelligence layer that produces the PRD.
3. "Our RICE scores were guesses dressed as numbers."
Craft.io supports scoring frameworks, but Reach, Impact, and Confidence still came from PM intuition. MindBacklog proposes RICE scores from signal volume, sentiment, channel diversity, and enterprise account mentions — every input traceable to source. The score becomes a defensible artifact instead of a number to memorize before a review.
4. "Competitive intelligence was a separate spreadsheet that went stale."
Craft.io does not address competitive intelligence. Teams cobble together quarterly battlecards that age out within weeks. MindBacklog's Competitive Intelligence dashboard mines public reviews continuously and surfaces gap matrices, sentiment trends, and signal feeds per competitor automatically — and that competitive context flows into Living PRDs by default.
What moving over actually looks like.
Honest mechanics from teams that have done the switch.
Step 1 — Connect your existing channels
Slack, Email, App Store, Google Play, your public portal, your feedback widget, Web Scraper, Web Form, Reddit. Most teams complete this in under five minutes. Anything Craft.io was capturing through partial integrations, MindBacklog captures natively with signal-level classification — and Craft.io's signal gap is usually the first thing the new channel breadth fixes.
Step 2 — Bulk-import historical research and feedback
Export your Craft.io feedback items, research notes, and feature pages as CSV. POST them to the MindBacklog REST API endpoint. The pipeline classifies, deduplicates, and links them against your features automatically — typically restoring 18-36 months of signal history in a single batch. Existing feature linkages can be preserved via the optional feature_id column.
Step 3 — Migrate roadmap items via Jira
If Craft.io was already pushing to Jira, the LIVE bidirectional Jira sync picks features up directly. Otherwise, export Craft.io features as CSV and import. Status, owner, target dates, OKR alignments, and release groupings preserved.
Step 4 — Generate the first Living PRD
Pick any feature with at least 10 imported signals. Ask Mind: "Write a Living PRD." Thirty seconds later you have a citation-rich document drawing on your full historical context. This is usually the moment teams know the migration was worth it — the artifact has the structural rigor Craft.io trained you to expect, with the citations produced for you instead of by you.
Realistic timeline
Solo PMs typically complete the full migration in an afternoon. Multi-PM teams complete it over a week with a half-hour onboarding session. Craft.io contract overlap is fine — most teams run both for one billing cycle while they validate the cut-over and confirm the Living PRDs hold up against the engineering team's spec expectations.
Honest call: choose them, not us, if…
A comparison page that pretends our tool wins in every scenario is not a credible comparison. There are real situations where Craft.io is the right pick:
- ✓Spec quality and roadmap structure are your bottleneck — not signal capture. If your team already has strong existing signal sources (a dedicated research function, sales notes flowing in, qualitative insights handled well), and your gap is purely the PRD template and roadmap presentation layer, Craft.io is a clean fit.
- ✓Capacity planning across multiple squads is a daily need. Craft.io's sprint-level capacity allocation and team load views are deeper than MindBacklog's. If you run weekly capacity reviews and need that depth, Craft.io has the right primitive for that work.
- ✓You explicitly do not want AI-generated artifacts. Some teams have policies against AI in PM workflow, or simply prefer authoring every PRD by hand. If that is your team, MindBacklog is not the right choice — half of what makes the platform valuable is the AI synthesis.
- ✓Procurement requires Craft.io specifically. Existing contracts, security review constraints, vendor consolidation policies — these are real and not worth fighting. Use the tool that gets bought.
