Ask Mind — Your AI Product Product Coach

Overview

Ask Mind is a conversational AI assistant that understands your specific product context. Unlike generic AI tools, it has direct access to your features, signals, roadmap, and customer feedback — making it a true product management product coach.

How to get there: You have two ways to talk to Mind:

  • Side panel (available on every page except the dedicated chat page) — click the dark Ask Mind tab at the right edge of the top navigation, or press ⌘. / Ctrl+.. See "Side Panel" below.
  • Dedicated /chat page — click Ask Mind in the left sidebar (second item, below Dashboard) for the full-page experience: conversation history on the left, chat on the right.

Both surfaces share the same conversation store — switch between them mid-thread.

Side Panel

The side panel is the "always available" version of Ask Mind. Click the dark Ask Mind tab at the top-right edge of the screen (or press ⌘. / Ctrl+.) and the panel slides in over your current page — no navigation away from what you're doing.

Why it exists. The most useful time to ask Mind a question is when you're looking at the thing you're asking about. The dedicated /chat page makes you leave that context. The panel keeps it.

Context awareness. When you open the panel on a feature, Insight, Intelligence Hub view, or Roadmap view, a context pill appears at the top showing what Mind currently sees — e.g. AMP-139 — Mobile-first reliability. Any question you ask is silently augmented with that context, so you can say "summarize this" or "what's blocking it?" naturally without spelling out the feature key.

Pinning context. Click the map-pin icon on the pill to lock the context — pinned, the pill stays on that one item even if you navigate to other pages. Click again to unpin.

Persistence + resizing. The panel remembers its open/closed state, current conversation, scroll position, and width across page navigations and browser refreshes. Drag the left edge to resize (360–560px range).

Adaptive quick prompts. The empty state shows 4 quick-start prompts that adapt to the page you're on (e.g. "Write a PRD for this" on a feature page, "Top Insights to triage today" on the Intelligence Hub).

Unread indicator. If you send a question, close the panel, and Mind's reply finishes streaming while it's closed, a small dot pulses on the header tab.

Open in full view. The expand icon in the panel header opens the current conversation in the dedicated /chat page — you don't lose your place.

Mobile. On phones (≤768px) the panel becomes a full-screen sheet with a sticky composer at the bottom.

First visit. New users see the panel auto-open once with a short welcome message. After dismissal, it never auto-opens again — but the tab stays visible whenever you want it.

Shortcuts. ⌘. / Ctrl+. toggle, Esc close, Enter send, Shift+Enter newline.

How It Works

When you ask a question, Ask Mind:

  • Interprets your intent — Understands what you're asking and selects the right tools to find the answer.
  • Queries your data in real-time — Searches through your features, signals, roadmap, and context to gather relevant information.
  • Searches the public web when needed — For competitor intel, industry benchmarks, or framework lookups that aren't in your data, it pulls external sources and cites them inline as [1], [2].
  • Applies the right PM expertise — Detects whether you're drafting a PRD, prioritizing features, defining metrics, or seeking advice, and shapes the response accordingly.
  • Remembers the conversation — Follow-up questions like "what metric should I use for it?" resolve to the feature you discussed earlier in the same chat.
  • Synthesizes an insightful response — Combines everything into a clear, actionable answer specific to your product.

This means Ask Mind doesn't just talk — it actually pulls live data from your product every time you ask, and reaches outside when needed.

What to Ask

Retrieval & Analysis

  • "What are the top 5 feature requests from the last 30 days?"
  • "Show me all features related to onboarding"
  • "What are the signals linked to AMP-15?"
  • "Summarize bugs reported this week"

Strategic Thinking

  • "What should we build next based on customer evidence?"
  • "How well does our roadmap align with OKR Q1?"
  • "Compare the signal strength of these three features"
  • "What are enterprise customers asking for most?"

Creation & Action

  • "Create a feature called 'SSO Integration' with enterprise details"
  • "Generate a PRD for AMP-22"
  • "Break down feature AMP-10 into user stories"
  • "Move AMP-5 to In Progress"

Web Research

Use web research when the answer isn't in your product data — competitor moves, market context, framework lookups. Ask Mind decides automatically when to reach outside; you can also explicitly point it at a URL.

  • "Analyze https://[competitor-site] — what are they doing differently?"
  • "What's the latest thinking on activation metrics for B2B SaaS?"
  • "How does Linear handle issue triage compared to us?"
  • "Pull industry benchmarks for trial-to-paid conversion"

Every external claim comes with inline citations [1] [2] linking to the real source URLs — Ask Mind will not invent references.

Coaching & Tough Calls

Bring Ask Mind decisions you're wrestling with. It'll ask a clarifying question first, surface trade-offs honestly, and take a position — citing the framework it's reasoning from when relevant.

  • "Should I rewrite our onboarding flow, or fix the funnel further upstream?"
  • "Is this roadmap defensible to leadership?"
  • "We're considering deprecating AMP-12 — talk me through it"
  • "What's the right next step on this feature given the signal data?"

Safety Features

For mutation actions (creating, modifying, or deleting data), Ask Mind shows a confirmation card before executing. You must explicitly click "Confirm" to proceed, or "Cancel" to abort.

💡
Pro Tip

You can ask the AI to perform searches, then modifications in a single turn. Ask: "Find all features tagged 'mobile' and tell me which ones have fewer than 3 signals." It will chain tools automatically.

Best Practices

  • Be specific — "Show features with more than 10 signals" works better than "Show popular features."
  • Use feature keys — Reference items by key (e.g., AMP-15) for exact matches.
  • Ask follow-ups — The AI maintains conversation context. Drill deeper: "Tell me more about #3."
  • Export conversations — Save important analyses as Markdown for sharing with your team.
  • Start fresh conversations — When switching topics, start a new conversation to avoid context pollution.
