Objectives (OKRs) — Strategic Goal Setting
Overview
Objectives define your strategic priorities. By setting clear goals, you enable the AI to score features based on strategic alignment — not just signal count. Think of them as the compass that guides MindBacklog's AI prioritization.
How to get there: Objectives in the left sidebar — it sits directly below Roadmap. (Objectives was previously nested inside "The Mind"; it is now a top-level item.)
How to Create an Objective
Navigate to Objectives
Click Objectives in the sidebar — it sits directly below Roadmap.
Create New Objective
Click "Add Objective" and provide a clear, measurable goal. Example: "Improve enterprise customer retention by 20% in Q1 2026."
Write objectives that are specific and measurable. "Improve onboarding" is vague. "Reduce time-to-first-value below 5 minutes for new users" gives the AI clear context for scoring features against this goal.
Key Results
Each objective can have key results — measurable outcomes that indicate progress. The Dashboard shows an Objective Coverage widget with progress segmented by done, in progress, and planned features.
How to Link Features to Objectives
Open a Feature Detail Page
Navigate to any feature via the Intelligence Hub, Roadmap, or the Tracker.
Select Objectives
In the properties panel, find the Objectives field. Select one or more objectives that this feature contributes to.
A feature can be linked to multiple objectives. Each link strengthens both the feature's AI Priority Score and the objective's coverage metric.
Impact on AI Priority Scoring
When the AI calculates a feature's priority score, it considers:
- How many active objectives the feature is linked to
- How strongly the feature aligns with each objective
- The combined weight from both signals and strategic alignment
Features linked to objectives score higher than equivalent features without strategic alignment — ensuring your team builds what matters most to the business.
Objective Statuses
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Active | Currently being worked toward — influences AI scoring |
| Completed | Goal achieved — no longer affects scoring |
| Archived | Retired without completion — no longer affects scoring |
Review and update your objectives quarterly. Archive completed objectives, deactivate stale ones, and create new ones aligned with your updated strategy. The AI immediately adjusts scoring to reflect the new priorities.
